Thanks to Maggie Johns, the “Hostess with the Mostest”…a great time was had by all!  Every single ticket was sold, making it a full house at Maggiano’s!  All of the PBA members seemed to enjoy socializing helmetless for a change, and not to mention the awesome food.  It was even heard on numerous occasions that some folks “clean up real good”.  After dinner, everyone got their chuckles viewing a   slide show complete with humorous comments, created by Chris Mathews.

The party got down to business, with expressions of thanks given to Terry Brcka, Pat Champlin, Sharon Dickson, and Roxanne Kosanda for all their hard work over the years on the Board.  The club members then presented Terry with a framed autographed PBA jersey in gratitude for his services as president of the club.  After which, Terry announced the new Board members as:  President- Andrew Hoodwin, Vice President- Greg Thurmond, Treasurer- Jody de St. Germain, Ride Coordinator- Liz Francis, Membership- Natalie Mathews, Special Events Director- Maggie Johns, and Newsletter Editor- Lori Maucieri.  However, it was noted that the position of Merchandise Director has yet to be filled.  To avoid a long and drawn out “Step Up to the Plate” speech by Andrew in the near future, it might be wise for some brave club member to “take one for the team” and volunteer for this position as soon as possible!

Liz Francis took the stage next to announce the “Top Three Mileage Riders” for 2011 as:  Daniel Schaaf, Nick Esposito, and David Appleby.  Terry awarded the “Volunteer of the Year” to our favorite Warren Casteel, for all his diligent efforts to keep the bicycle community safe.  John “Razer” Evans, last year’s recipient of the “Larger than Life” award, along with Razer’s son Zac, and “Mr. Let Me Put My Two Cents In” Markus, announced the nominees for the not- so- coveted award.  The nominees included:  Steve “MacGyver” Rovinsky, Greg “The Devil” Thurmond, “Steeler Tim” Elliot, “Big Lori” Maucieri, “Wild Bill” Lawrence, and Walt “Squatch” McCreary.  Many of the nominees cowered, trying NOT to make eye contact with the presenter, in hopes that they would not be chosen.  The stunning blue banana crown was then bestowed on “Big Lori”, as the other nominees shared a collected sigh of relief.

More excitement ensued when the raffle began.  Everyone clutched their treasured raffle tickets, (or as our beloved Maggie calls them “rifle tickets”) in anticipation of all the cool prizes donated by Plano Cycling and Fitness, Richardson Bike Mart, Maggiano’s, and even a cool cycling labeled bottle of wine donated by Chris and Natalie Mathews.  All of the members left the party with fun goody bags filled with even more nifty items donated from Skin Strong, Grease Monkey, Plano Cycling and Fitness, and Richardson Bike Mart.

When all the prizes had been given out, His Majesty Andrew Hoodwin, closed the annual party with promises of new and exciting things on the horizon for PBA.  He also enlightened the crowd of his excellent stalking abilities for volunteers.  So basically….you can run, but you cannot hide….you have been warned.

Where were you born or from and how long have you been in the DFW area?

Originally from the Chicagoland area; been in the DFW area for 10 years.

What brought you to the DFW area? What part of town do you currently live in?

Married a Texan in Alaska and he got me here as quick as he could ;-)  We live in Wide Awake Wylie (I have an accent now too!)

When you are not cycling, how do you earn your living?

I’m a Marketing Manager for an electronics mfg company.

What is the best thing about your job?

The people I get to work with each day!  For the 5th straight year in a row, AMX has been voted one of the Best Places to Work In America and it’s true!

How long have you been a member of the PBA?

Just joined the club, May 2011

How did you get interested in cycling, group cycling, cycling with the PBA?

A coworker took me to my 1st spin class 6+ years ago; last year I tried my 1st triathlon that included riding outside for the first time; now I’m hooked and this year I challenged myself to ride the MS150 for my brother—it was the most AMAZING experience yet!

Are you a member of any other bike clubs?

In my mind, there are no other clubs besides the PBA—I’ve already recommended it to all my friends & family.  The positive experience I’ve encountered gets retold time and time again (did I mention I’m in Marketing???)

How many rides and how many miles per year do you cycle?

No clue.  I try to cycle (in or out) about 3-4 times a week.

Tell us two or three interesting things most people don't know about you.

I sing sitcom or cartoon jingles to myself ;-)  I’d prefer to wear pajamas all day???

Describe your first bike. Do you participate in any other sports? Have you, or do you do any bicycle racing?

Yes, I participate in other sports and really enjoy trying new things.  Last year I ran my 1st half marathon.  It was a fantastic experience and the Dallas Running Club is the team to join to train!!!

What is your favorite ride ever or best ever riding experience?

What is your most embarrassing cycling moment?

Nothing comes to mind but I’m sure there will be something in the future.

If you could go on one more bike ride, what ride would it be?

Don’t know enough about various rides yet.

Books: Anything Mitch Albom; Movie: Hitch (‘cause I can do the Q-tip dance move); Play: Annie Get Your Gun

I was born in El Salvador. However, I grew up in Costa Rica, where I lived for 20 years. I have lived in the U.S. for about two years, and I’ve always been in DFW.

What brought you to the DFW area? What part of town do you currently live in?
Love! I moved to the U.S. because my husband is from TX. I currently live in Plano.

When you are not cycling, how do you earn your living?
I’m a public relations specialist and work for a Marketing, Advertising and Public Relations firm.

What is the best thing about your job?
I love developing communications efforts and seeing how they yield real results in people’s opinions, perceptions, etc. This is a very dynamic and versatile profession, so you don’t get bored as you’re always doing different things.

How long have you been a member of the PBA?
Since June, 2011

How did you get interested in cycling, group cycling, cycling with the PBA?
I moved to Plano from Lewisville a year ago. Once here, I wanted to exercise outdoors with my husband; therefore, we bought brand new bikes. After riding every single bike path in Plano many times, I though it was about time to get on the street! I looked up for cycling groups online and decided to join PBA.

Are you a member of any other bike clubs?
Not as of now.

How many rides and how many miles per year do you cycle?
I just started cycling in Spring of 2011.

Tell us two or three interesting things most people don't know about you.
I was a radio news host in college and I love dancing salsa.

Describe your first bike. Do you participate in any other sports?
Wow. I would not be able to describe my first bike, but I know I loved it. I don’t do other sports, but I go to the gym and a fitness studio.

What is your favorite ride ever or best ever riding experience?
To be done!

What is your most embarrassing cycling moment?
To be done too… Hopefully it won’t come, but that’s too much to ask

If you could go on one more bike ride, what ride would it be?
In the north of the country! Sometime in the fall, somewhere with a lot of beautiful trees

What is your favorite book, movie, or play?
I love the Harry Potter books and have many favorite movies, but I love “Cantinflas” movies, he was the most iconic Mexican comedian

If you have, or had, an iPod, what music would be in it? What is your favorite food or cuisine?
Michael Jackson, Queen, 80’s, 90’s, salsa, merengue, pop… Love food from Latin America

What other hobbies or interests are you involved in when not riding your bike? Do you have any pets? If so, describe.
I go to the gym, cook, stay in close touch with my family in CR, go shopping, spend time with friends and make plans

No kids

What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
In Costa Rica, people don’t have bike paths or nice, wide roads like we do here. I’m really excited to take my bike journey to the next level with PBA.
